I pierced my septum and it didnt hurt much at all (however it was frozen) i was wondering if this was normal.?

I pierced my septum a few days ago with a sewing needle, it was stupid as the ring didnt fit into the hole. Anyway i'd heard septum piercings were supposed to be pretty painfull and I was worried as mine wasn't really. I pierced it near the top of my nose in the skin between the cartilage and the fleshy part of my nose, is this wrong? im re-doing it soon so i wanna know if i have went wrong :)
