Alternatives to Bangkok: Riots causing change in my Thailand trip?

As others have mentioned, Hua Hin is a great escape from Bangkok. Unfortunately, it's not really on the way to Pattaya. If you do decide on Hua Hin, you might enjoy stopping by the Damnoen Saduak floating market.
