How do they pick the president? ?

it is said that when they were drawing up the constitution and planning the election of a president that someone in the the continental congress claimed, 'the mes are es'....meaning we can't trust the popular vote to pick our leader. what they came up with is the electoral college. what it means is that if a candidate wins a state, he wins X amount of electoral votes, based on the states population, so state A is worth 5, while state B is worth 20, because of population. so if you win a state, you pick who will be the electorate voters....does this make any sense?? it shouldn't, its a stupid system. but in the end the one that wins the most electoral votes, wins the presidency. this system is flawed and is not a true democratic voteing system. example is in 2000, more americans voted for al gore, but gw bush got more electoral votes.....i hope this helped, its hard to explain in brief.
