Farsi speaking iraqi surnames?

I am writing a children's story and this little American girl has a mother who is Iranian and a father who is Iraqi, both of them speak Farsi. Do Iraqis use patronymics? So would she be called eg Mandana Jasem if her father is called Jasem? Or some other name? Any help gratefully received thanks!
